2026 “The Colonial” Civilian Service Rifle Australian Championships

The 2026 “The Colonial” Civilian Service Rifle (CSR) Australian Championships is a premier three-day national
event celebrating the heritage, skill, and competitive spirit of Civilian Service Rifle shooting in Australia.
The Championship will comprise three distinct competitions, fired over distances from 100 to 400 yards,
challenging competitors across multiple stages of fire that test accuracy, consistency, and field shooting
proficiency.
Awards will be presented in each class for every competition, with medallions and prizes awarded to leading
competitors. In addition, cash prizes and perpetual trophies will be awarded in accordance with the official
program and current rulings.
“The Colonial” aims to provide a competitive yet welcoming environment for shooters of all experience levels,
while preserving the traditions and disciplines that define Civilian Service Rifle competition.
Classes of Competition LERAA Ruling
The Championship will be open to the following three classes:
A2.2.2 Historic Enfield
a. Sht LE Mk1, Rifle No.1 MkIII (SMLE)
b. Rests may not be used.
c. Trigger pull 4.5 lbs minimum.
e. A sling corresponding to as issued pattern 1937 is permitted.
A2.2.3 Veteran Enfield
a. Rifle No4 mk1, Mk1/2, Mk2 Rifle No5
b. Rests may not be used.
c. Trigger pull 4.5 lbs minimum.
e. A sling corresponding to as issued pattern 1937 is permitted.
A2.2.4 Any Iron
a. Iron sights only
b. No restrictions on slings
c. Other than in e below, rests are prohibited
d. Trigger pull 4.5 lbs minimum.
e. Magazine resting is permitted, when magazine resting only the magazine and no other part of
the rifle may touch the ground.
Ammunition regulations
Ammunition can be commercial or reloaded. All ammunition should be 174gn projectiles loaded to mark 7
(2440ft/sec) specifications. Ammunition will be weight and scrutinised along with your rifle at registration.
Any Irons: No regulation on ammunition so long as it meets range approval specifications (8mm)
Clothing and equipment regulations:
Gloves, target shooting jackets, padded shooting mats, shaded sight hoods, target sights, target slings and are
not permitted.

Thursday, 16 April – Sighting-In Day

An official sighting-in opportunity will be available at:

  • 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards (5 rounds maximum at each distance)
  • Electronic targets in use
    This session allows competitors to confirm zero and familiarise themselves with range conditions prior to the
    Championship matches.

Courses Of Fire
C3.10 The Colonial Rifle Match- The 303 Prize LERAA
The LERAA 303 Prize remains the only cash prize event of the Association, as such match conditions are to be
strictly adhered to. The match is designed for the No1Mk3 SMLE rifle however the No4 rifle is permitted as a
prize-winning class should there be 6 or more pre-registrations of the No4 rifle. All other permitted bolt action
rifles including the No4 rifle are eligible to enter but will not be considered in the cash prize pool.
All rifles will be scrutinised prior to the match and must present “as issued” details can be found in the
preceding rules or are subject to the word of the scrutineer.
All ammunition will be loaded to Mk7 velocity using the 174g projectile. Participants must make the full
number of their ammunition available at scrutineering for random testing if required.
The prize pool and distribution will be at the discretion of the executive; prize monies will always be presented
in cash at the prizegiving following the event. If a participant is not present to accept their prize in person, the
amount will be forfeit to the clubs international team’s fund.

Stage 1 – Harassing Fire
(sighting shots are permitted only when match is shot individually)
Distance: 300 yards
Position: Prone
No of shots: 10 to count
Targets: Triple Fig 11
Scoring: 5 on the outer targets for a hit inside the 300mm circle, 4 elsewhere on the outer target, and
2 for a hit anywhere on the inner target. Only the 5 highest scoring shots will count on each of
the outer targets.
Timing: 1 exposure of 15 seconds and 4 exposures of 6 seconds
HPS: 50

Procedure

  1. If required firers will have 2 minutes for sighting shots, targets will be inspected or spotting discs
    shown.
  2. Firers will adopt the standing alert position, rifles loaded, made safe with safety catches applied.
  3. On appearance or indication of the targets, firers will adopt the prone position and fire 1 round at the
    left and 1 round at the right targets during each exposure.
  4. There will be an irregular interval between exposures of between 5 and 20 seconds.
  5. Firers may remain in the firing position between exposures.
  6. Scores will be communicated to the firing point and spotting discs shown for 30 seconds or inspected
    and scored.

Stage 2 – Rapid
Distance: 300 yards
Position: Prone
No of shots: 10 to count
Targets: 1x Fig 12
Scoring: 5 and 4
Timing: 1 exposure of 60 seconds
HPS: 50
Procedure

  1. Firers will be ordered to stand up, load, make safe, apply safety catches and adopt the standing alert
    position.
  2. On the appearance or indication of the target, firers will adopt the prone position, release safety and
    open fire.
  3. Scores will be communicated to the firing point and spotting discs shown for 30 seconds or inspected
    and scored.
    Stage 3: Slow Fire
    Distance: 200 yards
    Position: Standing Unsupported
    No of shots: 10 to count.
    Targets: Fig 11 on screen
    Scoring: 5 (240mm/blue circle) and 4, remainder of the screen 2 points
    Timing: 45 seconds per shot.
    HPS: 50
    Procedure:
  4. Firers will adopt the standing alert position, rifles loaded, made ready with safety catches applied.
  5. On the appearance or indication of the targets, 10 consecutive rounds are to be fired in the time
    allowed
  6. Scores will be communicated to the firing point and spotting discs shown for 30 seconds or inspected
    and scored.
    Stage 4: Snap Shooting in the Attack
    Distance: 200 yards
    Position: Sitting, Kneeling or squatting (per classification)
    No of shots: 10 to count.
    Targets: 1x Fig 12
    Scoring: 5 and 4 on the large circle
    Timing: 10 exposures of 3 seconds with irregular intervals of 5-15 seconds, indicated via whistle
    HPS: 50
    Procedure:
  7. Firers will adopt the kneeling, load 10 rounds and make ready.
  8. At the appearance/indication of the targets firers are to open fire with one round per indication.
  9. On completion of the stage firers will accompany the RO and scorer to inspect and clear targets
  10. The firing of more than one shot for any exposure will result a penalty.
    Stage 5: Agony Snaps
    Distance: 100 yds
    Position: Standing then kneeling or squatting
    No of shots: 10 to count
    Target: 1 x Fig 14 window target
    Scoring: 5 and 4 on the Fig 14 and 3 elsewhere on the target
    Timing: 5 exposures of 6 seconds
    HPS: 50
    Procedure
  11. Firers will be ordered to load with 10 rounds, make ready and adopt the standing alert position.
  12. On each exposure/indication of the target firers are to fire 2 rounds, one from the standing followed
    by one from sitting, kneeling or squatting.
  13. There will be an irregular interval of between 5 and 10 seconds between exposures.
  14. Firers must return to the standing alert position in between each exposure. All movement must be
    completed with the chamber empty and bolt open.
  15. Scores will be communicated to the firing point and spotting discs shown for 25 seconds or inspected
    and scored.

Stage 6 – Rapid
Distance: 100 yards
Position: Prone
No of shots: 10 to count
Targets: 1x Fig 14 Window Target
Scoring: 5 and 4 on the Fig 14 and 3 elsewhere on the target
Timing: 60 seconds
HPS: 50
Procedure

  1. Firers will be ordered to load, make safe, apply safety catches and adopt the standing alert position.
  2. On appearance/indication of the target, firers will adopt the prone position, release safety catches and
    open fire.
  3. Scores will be communicated to the firing point and spotting discs shown for 30 seconds or inspected
    and scored.

C3.13 ANZAC Trophy COF
The ANZAC consists of a single course of fire with two competitions. For all LERAA members the highest score
with an SMLE will be presented with “The ANZAC” perpetual trophy. The LERAA ANZAC tag event (LERAA
members only) for “as issued” SMLE chambered in .303 British will be contested with the final three stages of
the shoot.
The shoot is dedicated to the ANZACs who answered the call and continue to answer the call:
“Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives … You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country.
Therefore, rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side
by side here in this country of ours … You, the mothers who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away
your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they
have become our sons as well.”
Ataturk
The eligible rifles for “The ANZAC” trophy will be MLE and SMLE in as issued configuration chambered in .303
British. Other classes may participate but shall be excluded from the ANZAC Trophy.
Where the ANZAC Trophy COF is used as part of the Colonial Rifle Matches awards are presented in eligible
classes as part of the CSR Championships.
Stage 1: The Bombardment
(sighting shots are permitted only when match is shot individually)

    Distance: 200 yards

  5. Firers will adopt the standing alert position, rifles loaded with 5 rounds, made ready with safety
    catches applied.
  6. On the appearance/indication of the target competitors are to fire 5 rounds reload with charger and
    fire the remaining 5 rounds in the permitted time.
  7. Scores will be communicated to the firing point and spotting discs shown for 30 seconds or inspected
    and scored.
    Stage 3: Up The Cliffs

Distance: 200yds
Position: Kneeling
No. of Shots: 10 shots to count
Targets: Second Class Figure Target.
Scoring: 5 on the figure, 4 within the circle, 3, 2.
Timing: 60 seconds Rapid

Procedure:

  1. Firers will adopt the standing alert position, rifles loaded, made safe with safety catches applied.
  2. On appearance of the targets, firers will adopt the sitting, kneeling or squatting position and fire 10
    rounds
  3. Scores will be communicated to the firing point and spotting discs shown for 30 seconds or inspected
    and scored.
    Stage 4: Quinn’s Post
    Distance: 200 yards
    Position: Prone
    No. of Shots: 10 to count
    Targets: Fig. 12
    Scoring: 8 inch vertical band 5 remainder of target 4
    Timing: 3 exposures of 15 seconds

    Procedure:
  4. Firers adopt the standing alert position rifles loaded with 10 rounds and made safe.
  5. On appearance/indication of the target firers are to adopt the prone position and fire 10 rounds
    within the 3 x 15 second exposures.
  6. Scores will be communicated to the firing point and spotting discs shown for 30 seconds or inspected
    and scored.
    Stage 5: Repelling The Counterattack
    Distance: 200 yards.
    Position: Kneeling.
    No. of Shots: 10 to count.
    Targets: Fig 12.
    Scoring: 8-inch vertical band 5, remainder of target 4.
    Timing: 10 x 3 second exposure.
    HPS: 50.
    Procedure:
  7. Firers will adopt the kneeling position, rifles loaded, made ready with safety catches applied.
  8. There will be 10 exposures or indications of 3 seconds at irregular intervals varying between 5 and 20
    seconds.
  9. Only 1 round to be fired at each exposure.
  10. Scores will be communicated to the firing point and spotting discs shown for 30 seconds or inspected
    and scored.

Stage 6: The Evacuation

    C3.9 The Dorset Dabble – TCRA

Stage 1: Standing (Belfast Gamble)
Distance: 100 yards
Position: Standing, followed by kneeling or squatting
No of shots: 10 to count
Targets: 1x Fig 12c
Scoring: 5 and 4
Timing: 5 double exposures of 4 seconds with 2 seconds between exposures
HPS: 50
Procedure:

  1. Firers adopt the standing alert position, rifles loaded, made ready with safety catches applied. Safeties
    may be released on the command ‘Watch and shoot’.
  2. The targets make 5 double exposures/indications of 4 seconds up, 2 seconds down and 4 seconds up,
    at irregular intervals over a period of 2 minutes
  3. The first shot in each double exposure must be fired from the standing position, and the second from
    either the kneeling or squatting position. Firers return to standing alert after each double exposure.
  4. Scores will be communicated to the firing point and spotting discs shown for 30 seconds or inspected
    and scored.
    Stage 2: Sitting, Kneeling or Squatting
    Distance: 200 yards
    Position: Sitting, kneeling or squatting
    No of shots: 10 to count

    Timing: 2 exposures of 20 seconds

  3. Scores will be communicated to the firing point and spotting discs shown for 30 seconds or inspected
    and scored.
